Tantaqua Klondike Derby 2/5/2011

After weeks of preparation, Klondike has come and gone like a wild winter weather event — we had snow, sleet, rain and fog, but we also had FUN!

We entered two sled teams and each patrol did their very best to compete for a prize.  Everyone received patches and nice travel mugs as keepsakes from the event.  There were ten specific challenges including sled inspection to make sure that all needed items (from a checklist) were actually onboard the sled.

Other stations pushed the teams to work together to carry their sled across a dilapidated bridge, or construct an emergency shelter.  Tying ten specific types of knots seemed to present the most difficult challenge to the teams, but they managed to do well.

The event ran from 7:30 AM to 4 PM.  The Scouts are eager to do it again next year.  Photos have been uploaded to our troop’s photo share site.
