The Patriot’s Path Council sponsored a camporee at MASR and we participated together with Troop 777 of Montville, NJ. Essentially, it was a summer camp preview weekend: shooting sports, boating, COPE course preview, Tomahawk Toss, ATV rides and Dan Beard program preview.
For many of our scouts this was either their first or second overnight camping experience with our troop, but everyone had a great time and the weather was better than anticipated.
Cooking was one of the highlights of the trip and we enjoyed good food by the cooks/grubmasters. One of my new favorites is the “Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato & DoritoChip sandwich — mmmm….Zesty!
Just about all of our scouts managed to shoot shotguns, rifles and bows on Saturday. Some are thinking about taking the merit badge course at summer camp since they did well and enjoyed the experience. Others spent time at the lake and some got to ride ATVs (Camp Somers, at MASR, is one of three BSA camps approved to test the concept of ATVs at scout camps).
Photos from the trip have been posted at our troop’s photo share site.
