Last night, our troop hosted a special presentation by Mr. Cahilly of the New York Botanical Garden. Mr. Cahilly taught our scouts about plant identification to help them with their advancement requirements. The scouts had a great time with lots of real leaves to examine and handouts that help them learn the vocabulary needed to make a proper identification.
We’ll be conducting a follow-up field trip on a Sunday afternoon in June to let the scouts put into practice what they’ve learned by identifying plants at a local park.
In addition to the plant seminar, we talked about upcoming camping trips, summer camp and advancement within the troop. We also conducted two BORs and promoted two scouts to the rank of Tenderfoot.
