Monday night@ camp

What a long but exciting first day of camp.

After dinner (spaghetti) we had some free time for tether ball, polypong and such.  An emergency drill brought us together at the parade grounds, but we were soon back in camp building a fire.

After a brief baking lesson, the scouts took turns following the steps of the recipe for” Denny’s Pineapple Cake”.  Once we had the cakes (2) on the fire.  Mr. Tucker gave an excellent devotional based on a story from his youth.

There was an almost reverent silence as I flipped the dutch ovens over onto the serving trays.  When we heard the” thump” of the cake dropping everyone leaned in with unchecked interest trying to catch the first glimpse of the evening’s treat.

Next the scouts took charge of the I’ll cut…you pick process of rationing out the treasure.

How was it?   One word…YUM.

Don’t be surprised if you get a postcard asking to send yellow cake mix and pineapples by overnight courier.
