Pinewood Derby Recap (4/10/2012)

Last night, our troop held its first pinewood derby competition.  Scouts had been provided kits consisting of a wood block, axles and wheels.  Their mission was to carve and decorate a model car or truck and race it against the other scouts’ models.

In addition to the scouts own program, we encouraged adults to carve their own cars for an adult vs. adult competition.

Beyond racing on our wooden track, we also sponsored three subjective contests: “most realistic model”; “most creative/imaginative model”; and the model which inspired the most fun/cheer.

Vehicles included such creations as:

  • The “Green Hornet’s” car
  • Pickup trucks
  • A stick of butter on a wheeled butter tray
  • Army trucks and station wagons
  • skateboards and even surf board!

Everyone had a great time and next week will be swim testing at the “Y”.

Photos from the derby will be uploaded to our scout photo share site.
