Merit Badge Fairs on November 17, 2012

Troop 113 families:

There will be a pair of MERIT BADGE Fairs on 11/17/2012.

One will be hosted by our local district in Bergenfield (FREE), and the other will be hosted by Patriot’s Path Council in Parsippany ($10 registration per Scout)

Either presents your scouts with an opportunity to get some merit badge work done for advancement during “the school year”.

Great!  What’s a Merit Badge?

Merit Badges are “unit studies” that enable First Class scouts to continue to advance to Star, Life and Eagle ranks.  These studies range from civics to nature to engineering to hobbies and sports.  Requirements for merit badges can be found, free, online at

In addition to listings of requirements, there are worksheets that can be downloaded and used as study aids.  The curriculum is found in Merit Badge booklets that can be purchased for $5 or borrowed from the troop’s own library at no cost.

What’s the difference between these workshops on the 17th???

a) The local one is Free, but doesn’t offer any classroom or small group instruction — it’s ONLY an appointment to meet with a counselor to show him/her that the scout has completed the requirements on their own prior to the meeting.

b) The Patriot’s Path program offers instruction in classroom and small group settings.  If prerequisites are completed prior to the meeting, your scout will receive additional instruction and may be able to complete the badge that day.  This program also has a session for DEN CHIEF TRAINING.

This is not a troop sponsored or led event — if individual scouts would like to participate, they can carpool or ask their parents for a ride, etc.

IF you think you’re interested, you need to SIGN UP and read the details (links) carefully for all the details (they require scouts to be in full uniform, etc.)
