Last night, we presented three merit badges and one rank advancement patch. Kurtis, our SPL, received Camping MB, Communications MB and Star rank. Joshua F. received his Citizenship in the Community MB.
As an “advancement” night, the patrols worked on various skills from the handbook or on merit badges. They work in small groups, teams, and buddy-sets to help hold each other accountable and to help each other understand the various requirements and source content.
Adults were available to address questions, assist with any special issues such as getting blue cards or locating a Merit Badge Counselor (MBC).
We also reminded scouts of upcoming events such as our trip to Jockey Hollow National Park, David T’s upcoming Eagle scout project event and Stephen F’s Eagle Court of Honor.
Scouts also made time to study the details of this year’s summer camp program — figuring out which merit badges to work on and how much free time to budget for in-camp trips with the troop (i.e. to visit Fossil Rock, Little Falls, Cool Dip or to sponsor a troop-shoot, etc.)
We concluded the meeting with a trip report from ASPL David T. — about his week-long visit to Trinidad to work in ministry there, and we also had a discussion about Loyalty and Friendship — how they’re related and what they mean to us as scouts.
